Fence

At the request of the HOA Board, On With Life (OWL) has installed a vinyl fence near the pond to separate the property. The HOA contributed 1/3 of the cost.

The hope is this will cut down or eliminate non-HOA members from parking at OWL then fishing on our pond.

Pond Restoration

A shock survey of the pond was completed on May 7th.  All fish floated to the surface and were examined.  Invasive or unhealthy fish were removed leaving many fish to live another day!

Now that we have a better understanding of the water and fish quality, more fish habitat structures will be added. We will also schedule fish stocking, including bait fish.

This process will be completed annually for the next few years so that we can continue to enjoy our amazing trophy pond!

CRP Prairie Grass

After working closely with the Polk County Conservation Office and the City of Ankeny, a natural prairie grass test area was planted. The goal is to reduce mowing expenses. Plus, it is great for nature and our environment!

Results likely won't be seen for several years. At that time, the Board will decide if and where to plant additional areas of prairie grass.

What was planted: short grass prairie seed (with wildflowers) mix

      Riprap Replenishment

The Board paid $2,500 to replenish 12 tons of riprap in the large pond. This additional expense was caused by individuals moving the rocks to create a dam near the bridge and throwing rocks into the pond. Riprap is human-placed rock used to protect the shoreline against erosion.
