Large Pond Update
The Board worked with the Iowa DNR and Controlled Ponds of Iowa to bring the pond back to its natural and improved state. A big thank you to Ryan De Vries for all of his work on this project!
An electrical post was installed for the new aeration system which is now running continuously. Beneficial bacteria was added to reduce ammonia and eat away at the muck to get some needed depth back. Pond dye was added to reduce clarity; so the sun doesn't assist with plant growth. A phosphate binder was provided to get rid of algae food. Finally, a herbicide treatment to kill off the naiad coontail, duckweed and watermeal.
The minnows and bait fish have returned strongly this summer. Fish stocking will include bait fish, black crappie, small mouth bass, walleye and perch. This was originally planned for October but there currently aren't many available in the market. We may postpone until spring.
Next year, bacteria treatment, dye and additional fish will be added. This will continue annually for the next several years at an annual cost of approximately $4,000. After that period, annual costs should diminish to approximately $1,000. Additional pond signage has been purchased.
Please do not introduce any fish into the pond.

Prairie Grass Area
An eastern area of the HOA is the first space turned into a flowering prairie grass area. Aeration was completed in mid-October. Overseeding took place in mid-November. Weed control will be ongoing. Prairie grass signage has been ordered.
This will eliminate need for mowing except for a strip of grass that will be maintained next to the sidewalk.
Pond Damage Continues
Riprap was installed around the pond last year to help with erosion. These rocks should remain on the shoreline, not thrown into the pond. The estimated damage is over $1,000 and will be replaced this spring / summer.
If you see this damaging activity take place, please notify the HOA Board immediately.
